Dear Families,
A warm welcome back to the returning families to the Our Lady of the Pillar (OLP) Religious Education (RE) program, and a special welcome to the new families that will be registering their children in our RE program for the first time.

Class registration was a bit delayed this year, for there are several changes to our program that are designed to ensure we are providing the best Religious Education for your children. First, once you obtain the registration form, you will notice that we are no longer offering RE classes on Wednesdays. Although this was an arduous decision, it was necessary for we have struggled for years with a teacher deficit, and there are simply not enough teachers to support three days of RE classes (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays). As it is, I will still have teacher vacancies for Thursday and Sunday that will hopefully be filled. If you were planning to enroll your child(ren) in the Wednesday classes, this is unfortunately no longer an option, and I am hopeful that you will be able to schedule your child(ren) for Thursday or Sunday.

The second change in our program is the time of the Sunday class which is 8:50am – 9:50am. We had to modify the Sunday class time due to the mass time changes that took place July 1st. The Sunday mass schedule is: 8:00am, 10:00am, 12:00pm (Spanish) and 6:00pm. The RE class time was chosen for the convenience of allowing the children to attend the 10:00am mass right after their RE class.

We still plan on holding Children’s Liturgy (CL) at the 10:00am mass if we have enough volunteers to lead the CL group each week. This is a very easy volunteer position. If we have 8 – 10 volunteers, each person would be volunteering for 30 minutes every 6 weeks – everyone can do that! If we do not get enough volunteers, we will have to minimize the Sundays that we offer CL, so please consider helping in this ministry or the ministry of teaching RE on Thursdays or Sundays – the kids of OLP need your minimal time and effort to make a huge impact in their faith development.

RE classes resume Sunday September 18th, which is Catechetical Sunday, and we will have a brief acknowledgement of the teachers at the 10:00am mass this day. Please return registration forms as soon as possible so that we can put our class lists together. The deadline for returning registration forms is Sunday September 11th.
